Reading the Room. Reading the Realm.
Introducing Dr. La Quita D. Frederick
I like questions that can hold their own. Ask me one and I may come back with three. I’ve learned that the questions everybody no one ask may be the ones that reveal the most. The room has a pulse. The realm has a pattern. I read both.
I am Dr. La Quita Frederick, known by many as Dr. Q, and my perspective spans college athletics, professional sports, higher education, and the business of sport nationally and globally.
For over 15 years, I was an marketing and communications executive in the sports industry accumulating experience with the NBA, MLB, NCAA, MLS, WNBA, ESPN, Division I and II college athletics including Power Four conferences and universities, and more.
Then, I pivoted to higher education as an administrator and professor, including almost five years as Faculty Director and Associate Professor of the Practice in Georgetown University’s Sport Industry Management program. It’s also been my pleasure to serve as a professor at Lasell University, Loyola Universidad Andalucia (Seville, Spain), Saint Peter’s University, and St. John’s University.
I know the sports business from the inside out, along with the brands and businesses, agencies and organizations, leagues and teams as well as the executives and leaders adjacent to and/or within it. I’m interested in what every perspective reveals and what becomes possible with a matrix mindset merges with kaleidoscope vision.
With 25+ years of deep and diverse experience, I founded The Qolosseum™, a strategy arena and design studio centering the business of sport. My perspectives have appeared in ABC News (Sydney, Australia), Fast Company, Forbes, NPR, PBS NewsHour, Reuters, Sports Business Journal. I’ve shared my experience, expertise, and insights via classrooms, conversations, panels, podiums, and stages. Given the opportunity, I will empower, enlighten, and inspire others.
I’ll find the question worth asking, give others room to think out loud, and follow the answer somewhere interesting. I bring questions with substance, stories with swag, and room for answers that surprise us all. My signature talks travel through the subjects I know well and others I cannot leave alone. One of them is The MVP Code™. I gave three letters everybody recognizes a new Mission, Vision, and Purpose (pun intended). Then, I asked the acronym to carry some weight.
I want people to leave with something they can recognize as their own: a clearer read of the world they operate in, a question they’re willing to keep asking, a definition of winning only they could compose for themselves from answers within. I decode complexity. I design distinction. I architect incomparability. A Standard of One.
